The family of a murdered Kenmore mother of two whose remains were identified last week are still struggling, knowing how violently she died.
“We need to find who did this. It scares me to think it could happen to somebody else. I don't want it to happen to anybody else. It's horrible,” said Alicia Falling.
The little bit of hope Falling had been holding onto since her cousin, Jamie Haggard, disappeared two years ago is now gone.
“I still was hoping maybe one day she would show up,” Falling explained. “Knowing that is never going to happen is really hard.”
This weekend, search crews scoured the field where Haggard was found in May, desperately looking for any evidence that could lead to Haggard's killer. Her remains were stuffed in a suitcase and found by work crews cleaning up trash along Highway 522, near Downes and Fales roads in Maltby. The body was so decomposed, it took twomonths to identify her.
“Just how she was found, I can't even,” Falling said. “It still doesn't feel real. How could someone do something like that? And she was so sweet.”
Though not quite closure, Falling says the family can now lay Haggard to rest. They're focused on honoring her life and created this GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for her service. The rest will be put in a trust fund for Haggard's 10-year-old twin daughters, who will now grow up without their mother.
“So they can have this from their mom, they deserve it,” Falling added. “She loved them so much.”
