1 killed in single-vehicle collision on I-5 near Kent

KENT, Wash. — One person was killed in a single-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 5 near Kent Saturday morning, according to Washington State Patrol.

Around 9:50 a.m., a 27-year-old driver traveling northbound on I-5 attempted to change lanes just north of state Route 516.

A driver in the adjacent lane honked the horn to notify the driver not to encroach.

The driver then swerved back into their lane but lost control of the vehicle and rolled over.

The car then struck a tree on the right side of the interstate, ejecting the driver.

The driver and the vehicle came to rest on the right shoulder approximately 15 feet off the roadway.

The driver was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

WSP said drivers should expect delays in the area while troopers investigate.

This is a developing story.
