FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — One person was killed and two others were hurt in a crash involving a semi-truck, car and an SUV.
A puppy was also hurt in the crash.
Federal Way police said a semi-truck was heading northbound on Pacific Highway South around 9:30 a.m.
When the driver slowed down for traffic, his trailer started swaying side to side.
Officers said the truck driver lost control and swerved into the southbound lane. The semi smashed into a maroon Honda SUV. The impact killed the 50-year-old woman inside the SUV.
The accident also caused a silver sedan to veer off the roadway and into the ditch.
According to police, a truck cab was also hit.
“There was parts and pieces flying everywhere off the cars and the trucks,” said Ron Pircey. “It sounded like a canon going off. When I looked in the mirror, if the ditch wasn’t there, it would’ve shot that car right into the side of my door.”
Federal Way police said it had to close both directions of Pacific Highway South for “many hours” for the investigation.
