1 suspect killed, another injured in officer-involved shooting in Thurston County

THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — A police chase across Oregon and Washington ended in an officer-involved shooting involving multiple agencies on Monday as one suspect was shot and killed, and another was wounded.

It started with an incident in Oregon around 12 p.m. that prompted officers in southwest Washington to look for a specific vehicle that was allegedly involved.

An officer in Lewis County spotted that vehicle on Interstate 5 in Napavine.

The vehicle then continued up to Thurston County while being followed by officers from multiple agencies.

Lieutenant Cameron Simper from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says Thurston deputies also got involved once the vehicle crossed into this county.

Shots were fired on Old Highway 99 at Violet Prairie Road Southwest near U.S. Route 290, according to TCSO.

“There is an adult male who is deceased. There is an adult male who is injured and has been detained and transported to the hospital for treatment,” said Simper.

A bystander was also hit by a round, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to the hospital for further treatment.

While Simper confirmed that Thurston County deputies did not fire their weapons, he would not say which specific agencies fired their weapons.

Officials say no officers were injured in this incident, and those involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol.

“The state has made it very clear in order to preserve an independent investigation that the agencies involved in these incidents cannot discuss specifics of the incident,” said Simper. “Those details will come out through the lead agency of the independent investigation team.”

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, which will be the lead agency on this investigation.
