RENTON, Wash. — A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday in the fatal shooting of a man outside a Renton convenience store.

The shooting happened at about 5:40 p.m. in 2000 block of Benson Road South on Wednesday.

About two minutes after police were called, officers arrived and found a 54-year-old man laying on the sidewalk. Renton police said he had multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

Detectives investigating the shooting said they were quickly able to identify a suspect who had been a passenger in a black SUV that left the shooting scene before officers arrived.

Renton police officers said they found the SUV at a nearby apartment complex, and a SWAT team served a search warrant at an apartment there.

The suspect, a 14-year-old from Burien, was arrested shortly before 7 p.m.

He was booked into the King County Juvenile Detention center, and will be charged with Wednesday’s murder.

Police said he will also be charged with a second homicide in which a young man was killed near the Safeway in the 4300 block of Northeast Fourth in October 2021.
