13-year-old boy killed in ATV accident near Auburn

AUBURN, Wash. — A 13-year old Milton boy died in an all-terrain vehicle accident near Auburn Sunday.

Shortly before 8 p. m., King County sheriff’s deputies were called to a report of an ATV accident on private property in the 34200 block of 141st Place Southeast in unincorporated King County.

Fire, medics and technical rescue crews were already at scene and had been led to the victim by friends and family.  Their efforts to revive the victim were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no witnesses to the accident.  King County Sheriff’s Major Accident Response Reconstruction (MARR) Detectives were called to the scene to investigate the circumstances that led up to the death.

Deputies and detectives were told by people at the scene that throughout the day, the victim had been riding ATVs on the property with a group of friends and family that had gathered for a barbeque.

After not hearing from the teen for an extended period of time, some in the group went out to look for him.   Eventually, the victim's friends and family found his ATV crashed off a steep, brush, rock and tree-filled ravine. The boy was found not far from the ATV.

It is not known how long after the actual accident occurred that the victim was found. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The victim’s body was turned over to the King County Medical Examiner's Office.  The exact cause of death has not been determined.
