$1.50 hot dog safe as Costco announces big change to food courts

Costco’s food courts will soon be serving Coca-Cola products again, marking a return to the brand after a decade-long switch to Pepsi, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle.

CEO Ron Vachris announced that the change will take place by this summer.

This shift means that Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, and Sprite will be available at the food courts.

The switch from Coca-Cola to Pepsi occurred in 2013 as a cost-cutting measure for the company.

However, the return to Coca-Cola will not affect the price of Costco’s popular $1.50 hot dog and soda combo meal.

At a quarterly earnings call in May, Chief Financial Officer Gary Millerchip assured customers that there are no plans to increase the price of the combo.

“I also want to confirm the $1.50 hot dog price is safe,” Millerchip stated. The iconic combo meal has maintained its $1.50 price tag since the 1980s.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported the Coca-Cola announcement occurred on the same day that Costco shareholders overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to roll back the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

“We owe our success to the more than 300,000 employees who serve our members every day,” Costco Chairman Hamilton James said during the same earnings call. “It is important that they all feel included and appreciated and that they transmit these values to our customers.”
