Teen rolls car in Poulsbo

A 19-year-old was booked into Kitsap County Jail after deputies say he was driving 40 mph over the speed limit with a blood alcohol level that was twice the legal limit.

Deputies in Poulsbo responded to the area of 6300 NE Gunderson Road, just off Miller Bay Road E, around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 1 for reports of a rollover crash.

The 19-year-old driver admitted to deputies that he lost control of this car while trying to go around a curve. Witnesses said the driver passed them going about 80 mph in a 40 mph-zone just before the crash.

The driver was able to get himself out of the car, but his passenger, a 21-year-old, was trapped inside. He was then removed from the vehicle by first responders and was airlifted to a local hospital for his injuries.

Deputies said the driver had a blood alcohol level of .199.

He was booked into Kitsap County Jail for vehicular assault.
