SHELTON, Wash. — Two people died after their car veered off Highway 12 and into Mayfield Lake near Mossyrock, Washington.
Authorities were called to the scene four miles west of Mossyrock in Lewis County at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday, according to a report from the Washington State Patrol.
The 2013 Audi SUV was found fully submerged in the lake.
Both occupants were still inside the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was later identified as 44-year-old Eric Sprague of Olympia. The passenger was identified as 60-year-old Lorraine Sprague of Mossyrock.
A preliminary investigation found that the SUV was headed east on Highway 12 when it veered off the road to the right and plunged into the lake.
Investigators don't know why the driver lost control.
