“We heard three shots, two done there, one here, saw someone leaving quickly on foot,” Beth Mullen, who works nearby, said.

She and her co-workers didn’t believe it at first.

“You kind of wonder, is that what I just heard? Is that what it was? Just pop pop pop,” she said.

Detectives say a witness called 911 Wednesday after he was approached by one of the men, who was shot in the thigh. Officers arrived and found the second man, who was shot in the back.

Andrew Ellis spotted the men from the ground.

“I saw the guy kind of flopping around, someone was trying to help him out,” he said. “Another guy was walking down the street limping.”

Detectives believe both men were shot by the same person, but it is unclear how the shootings are connected.

Andrew Scharhon from Halfon Candy said they acted quickly to get into lockdown as officers and a police dog checked the scene.

“[We] had everybody come back in and kept everybody inside safe,” he said.

He revealed one of the truck drivers who deliver freight to Halfon even jumped in to help.

“One of them had had a belt and used it as a tourniquet to kind of help out with the one,” he said.

Police said workers in the area were not in danger.

“According to our victims, they said the car had left the scene,” Seattle Police Detective Patrick Michaud said.

It's a crime that hit a little too close to home for Beth Mullen.

“That's not supposed to happen when you're at work,” she said, “not right on the other side of your own gate.”

Detectives are working to talk to the victims at Harborview Medical Center to get better descriptions of the suspect and his getaway vehicle.
