SEATTLE — A suspected DUI driver is in custody after crashing into a car on a southbound I-5 off-ramp Sunday in Seattle’s Northgate area.
The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. on the off-ramp to North Northgate Way.
Seattle firefighters said two people were trapped and had to be extricated from a car and another was ejected. All three were taken to Harborview Medical Center.
The victims, a 51-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, were reportedly in critical condition. A 20-year-old passenger was in stable condition. They were riding in a Tesla.
The 23-year-old DUI suspect was also taken to the hospital, troopers said. He was in stable condition.
Troopers said he was speeding in a Honda Civic and hit the Tesla.
KIRO 7 found out the Honda went into the air, crashed into the top of the Tesla and then clipped the top of a fence, going off the ramp into a retaining ditch.
The Honda driver was taken into custody at Harborview for investigation of vehicular assault.
The ramp was blocked for a time but was later reopened.
