KENT, Wash. — A 28-year-old man is dead, and another was injured in a shooting at a hookah lounge in Kent on Sunday.
The shooting happened before 7 a.m. in the 300 block of Washington Avenue South at the Luxe Hookah Lounge.
Police said a person who first called 911 gave limited information and hung up on the 911 operator without answering any questions.
When officers arrived, a sweep was performed inside the lounge as there were numerous people inside and outside the lounge.
Police said they found a man inside with multiple gunshot wounds.
Lifesaving measures were performed on the Auburn man until medics arrived, but the victim died, law enforcement said.
The second person, a 23-year-old Kent man, was shot in the hand and taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.
Police said the 23-year-old victim declined to provide any information about what happened. Others at the scene also declined to give police any information.
Kent Major Crimes detectives called to the scene are working to figure out the suspected shooter’s identity.
People who work nearby told KIRO 7 that crime has spiked in the area in the last few years.
“It’s extremely frustrating for me. I’ve looked for other places. I’ve considered moving because I’m dealing with the crime,” said Mike Anderson.
Investigators are asking anyone with additional information about the shooting to call 253-856-5808.
