OMAK, Wash. — The Omak Police Department says a car fire quickly turned into a much bigger investigation after 21 dogs were found living inside.
On Feb. 8, someone called 911 after a car had caught fire and was extinguished.
Police say the owner was living in the car and had been using a propane heater to stay warm, which likely sparked the flames.
At least three three dogs were hurt, and a number of the others appeared malnourished.
They were rushed to a nearby veterinary clinic for treatment.
Police say they decided to confiscate the dogs because of the unsanitary conditions of the vehicle, overcrowding, and malnourishment.
The dogs were taken to a nearby shelter and are being taken care of until suitable foster homes are found.
