The large hole in the driver's side window of Evelyn Zaragoza's 2009 Honda Accord did not come from a bullet Friday night.

It happened when 22-year old Erik Guzman-Naranjo “bashed in the window with the butt of his firearm and executed” his former girlfriend, Evelyn Zaragoza, according to documents filed in King County Superior Court,

Zaragoza was shot in the left temple and later died at Harborview Medical Center. The murder happened just before 9 p.m. Friday in a strip mall parking lot at 1st Avenue South and South 328th Street in Federal Way.

Anthony King and his family were walking nearby when they heard gunfire.

“My wife said she heard a couple of sounds, like fireworks. There were two shots and they were very powerful,” King told a KIRO 7 news crew.

According to court documents, Guzman-Naranjo fled to Oregon after the shooting. He was picked up there by Lake Oswego police officers on Sunday for failing to signal.

Friday's fatal shooting was apparently the second time in two days Guzman-Naranjo fired a weapon at Zaragoza.

"The day before the murder, he shot at her while she drove on a public street, causing bullet damage to the car she was riding in,” according to charging papers.

The next night "he found her in a parking lot and blocked the car she was driving in so she could not escape."

Guzman-Naranjo is now charged with first-degree murder.

He will be held on $1 million bail in Clackamas County, Oregon, until he’s transported to the King County jail.
