SEATTLE — The King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) announced Wednesday that 46 people in custody have tested positive for COVID-19, with 19 of those cases being detected on March 22 alone.

Cases were detected through contact tracing, surveillance testing and reported symptoms.

Additionally, seven employees reported to have tested positive for COVID-19. All of them had worked inside the KCCF.

Jail Health Services is in the process of administering COVID-19 tests to all inmates this week, as well as continued surveillance testing.

An enhanced cleaning of the facility has been planned, and everyone in custody is getting fresh surgical masks daily. Previously, inmates were using cloth masks.

The facility noted that most individuals in detention are not eligible for vaccination until the end of the month.
