7 workers taken to hospital after acid released at Ferndale refinery

FERNDALE, Wash. — Seven workers were taken to the hospital Friday evening after hydrofluoric acid was released from a unity at the Phillips 66 Refinery in Ferndale.

Officials at the refinery said their response team activated the emergency response plan and the leak was contained within the property.

Seven contract workers were taken to the hospital to be treated, three were for precautionary measures.

After 6 p.m., the incident was all clear and workers resumed normal activity.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
