Eatonville, WA. – Crews with multiple agencies have been battling the 8 Road Fire over the weekend.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources says that 150 acres have burned as of Sunday. A spokesperson with the agency says air and ground crews have attacked the fire throughout the day, and ground crews will continue work throughout the night.
According to Pierce County Fire and Rescue 23, a level one, or “be ready,” evacuation notice has been issued for people living at certain locations of Scott Turner Road, Beaver Creek, and 8 Road.
KIRO 7 spoke with one woman about the current status of the fire. Catherine Christian says it was concerning Sunday morning and afternoon due to the strong winds and smoke filling the air. She also shared photos of the fire impacting parts of Dobbs Mountain.
Christian says that where she and her family live, they are under a level one evacuation notice. She says they are prepared to leave if the fire continues to grow, but she says many people in the area with many animals are worried about how quickly they can evacuate.
“That’s what’s super important for me and where it gets concerning. And the neighbors, too. Is that we need to have, if it’s possible, at least 24 hours. Because not everyone can fit all of their animals in one trailer. So, you’re lining up different people to help you out with their trailers too. And you’re making multiple trips and figure out who has space in their pastures or their coops or their pins to put these animals in the meantime,” Christian said.
“There’s just a lot that goes into it compared to just you and your family leaving, you know,” Christian said.
Both Graham Fire and Pierce County Fire and Rescue 23 had crews on the ground Sunday. Currently, Washington DNR Wildfire is leading the response.
