Seattle police say they’re investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a local musician fighting for his life.

Sean Lowry, a father, has been at Harborview Medical Center since March 19.

"He's just the nicest person you'll ever meet," said his fiancée, Melissa Shaw, in an interview with KIRO 7 alongside Lowry's mother and cousin.

"I just want my baby back," said Lowry's mother, Merle Zahniser. "When they said that he had a 1 percent chance or less of coming to, I said no."

The family said Lowry, a drummer for the band Tennis Pro, was on his motorcycle last Tuesday night, driving along Admiral Way toward the West Seattle bridge near Southwest City View Street, when a driver hit him at 40 mph and never stopped.

Seattle police told KIRO 7 detectives believe the driver of a silver Dodge Caravan hit Lowry.

"A car was driving beside him and made an illegal U-turn," said Lowry's cousin, Angela Castagnola. "They said the best-case scenario was that he would be in a coma and never wake up. A day and a half later, he talked."

It's a blessing to his loved ones who said Lowry is still in and out of consciousness. They’re hopeful he’ll recover.

"He opened his eyes, and I said, 'Hey, sweetie,' and he looked at me and said, 'Hey, Mom,'" said Zahniser. "I told him I loved him, and he said, 'I love you too.'"

Support for Lowry has come from far and wide. More than 780 people have donated more than $72,000 to a GoFundMe created on Lowry's behalf.

A testament, his family said, to the kind of man he is and the lives he’s touched.

"He's sarcastic, he's funny, he's loving, he's better than superdad," said Zahniser.

Lowry’s family is now calling on whoever put Lowry in the hospital to come forward and turn themselves in.
