SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The missing 15-year-old girl and suspect who were the subject of a recent AMBER Alert were found in Spokane Valley on Tuesday evening, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Idaho State Police issued an Amber alert Monday for the missing 15-year-old girl from Lewiston, who was believed to be in the rural area of Columbia County near Starbuck. Police said the victim was with a suspect, 36-year-old Jonathan W. Bowles, and the two were traveling in a reported stolen 2007 maroon Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The alert stated Bowles had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest, including child molestation, and should be considered armed and dangerous.

On Tuesday, at approximately 5:55 p.m., deputies responded after receiving a call from someone who observed the suspect driving the stolen vehicle with the missing teen in the passenger seat.

Following a pursuit, a Spokane Valley patrol officer caught up with Bowles, who resisted arrest. The officer deployed his pepper spray, but it did not have the desired effect. Bowles began assaulting the officer, punching him twice, before the officer was able to gain control.

Additional deputies arrived and took Bowles into custody without further incident.

The victim was taken into protective custody and reunited with her family later that evening.

Bowles was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for charges of attempting to elude a law enforcement vehicle, assault in the third degree, kidnapping in the second degree, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and obstructing. He also faces extradition back to Idaho for his charges there.

This remains an active investigation. Spokane Valley police, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, and Washington State Patrol investigators will continue to work with Lewiston Police Department and other Idaho agencies. Additional charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation.
