Multiple people injured in accident on eastbound I-90 when driver tried to flee police

A driver was taken into custody Monday after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 90.

Before 6:15 p.m., Washington State Forest Unit 55 saw a white van traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on I-90 at milepost 31.

Investigators later identified the van as stolen and officers with the Snohomish Police Department pursued the vehicle.

According to probable cause documents, the driver of the white van took the on-ramp from milepost 25 to Westbound I-90 and hit a Snoqualmie Police Department vehicle. The driver continued the wrong way to Snoqualmie Parkway. The van made multiple U-turns and traveled the wrong direction.

Investigators said the van then crashed into a blue Subaru Impreza, with three people inside, head on.

Police saw the crash and saw the driver of the van flee the scene.

Officers chased the driver and later took him into custody.

Troopers asked the driver where he was coming from and where he was going.

According to probable cause, the trooper asked if he had consumed alcohol and the driver said yes. When asked how much alcohol was consumed, the driver said, “a beer or two and a shot.”

The driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center for his injuries.

The three occupants of the Subaru that was struck were also taken to the hospital.

Harborview staff said the driver of the Subaru has a broken right arm, multiple minor lacerations to the face.

The front passenger in the Subaru had a large laceration to his leg and in his arm and the passenger in the back had internal bleeding and unknown injuries.

Investigators said the passenger in the fleeing white van was unconscious, sustained fractures to her face and pelvis.
