GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, Wash. — New charges were filed in a child abandonment case involving missing 5-year-old Oakley Carlson’s parents, Andrew Carlson and Jordan Bowers.
Last month, the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office said that neither Carlson nor Bowers gave Oakley’s older 6-year-old sister her medicine for nearly 15 months, the result of which could have killed her.
They had already been charged with felony child abandonment in that case. In separate hearings Monday, prosecutors charged the couple with two counts of endangerment with a controlled substance. They are accused of exposing their children to methamphetamine.
However, no charges have been filed concerning Oakley’s disappearance, because neither she nor any remains have been found.
Oakley hasn’t been seen since November 2021 and her parents, who are persons of interest in her disappearance, are not cooperating with investigators.
Crews have been searching nonstop for the girl. Oakley’s foster parents said previously they wished the state would have listened to their concerns sooner.
“If somebody reaches out to you and say, ‘hey, I’m concerned about this,’ then inspect it. See if it’s true,” said Jamie Jo Hiles.
