SEATTLE — Starting June 4, travelers who never check bags on Alaska Airlines will have to start packing lighter.
The Seattle-based airline announced in a recent blog post its plans to trim the carry-on bag size limit for Alaska Airlines, Horizon and SkyWest Flights.
The new maximum dimensions for carry-on bags will change to 22 inches by 14 inches by 9 inches.
Currently, the maximum dimensions for a carry-on bag are 24 inches x 17 inches x 10 inches.

"Our current carry-on bag size is larger than most other international and domestic airlines allow. We're changing our bag size allowance to make sure that your carry-on bag will be accepted aboard all the flights within your itinerary. This will help you avoid carry-on bag size conflicts and make connections easier during your future trips. Best of all, we'll be able to fit more carry-on bags into the overhead bins," the airline said.

To help travelers adjust to the new dimensions, Alaska Airlines is adding updated "bag sizers at airport locations during the next few months that feature the new dimensions."
Despite the changes, travelers will still be allowed one-carry on bag plus one personal item.
