All seats are opening, but masks are still required on buses

More people are being allowed on buses, trains and ferries as the state reopens.

On Thursday, Washington State Ferries, Amtrak Cascades, Pierce Transit, Kitsap Transit, and Community Transit in Snohomish County removed social distancing requirements, opening all passenger seats.

King County Metro and Sound Transit will do the same Saturday.

Federal rules mean masks are still required on buses and trains, as well as in public indoor areas on the ferries.

“For the people who’ve been riding the bus the whole time, they just expect it now,” said Pierce Transit passenger Hannah Wilson.

King County Metro has already restored 85% of service cut in the pandemic. And while riders are returning, overall passenger levels are still well below pre-COVID-19 times.
