SEATTLE — The Angle Lake light rail station closed due to storm damage Wednesday evening.
According to Sound Transit, the storm damaged the overhead electrical system at Angle Lake Station in SeaTac.
Some commuters were met with a steel mesh gate blocking them from even accessing the light rail platform.
Whitney Large was one of the commuters that was confused when the Angle Lake station looked completely closed off. She told KIRO 7 that she did not see any alerts. “Not at all. I’m just heading to work and usually catch the train.”
You can find the latest updates on the Sound Transit website.
Sound Transit said severe damage to overhead lines stopped the service to and from Angle Lake Station. The transportation agency also said that the reason for the issues was inclement weather. The lights were still on at the station Thursday morning but there was no service.
Sound Transit alerts were displayed on the station’s video consoles saying all service to and from the station was suspended. Many commuters did not get the message that the light rail was not rolling through the station Thursday morning.
Alejandro Sustaita and his coworker were among the commuters who did not know that service was down.
“We work together probably going to be late, figure out which way to go now,” Sustaita said.
On Wednesday evening, a train had to be towed out of the station after the power was knocked out to the light rail. Repair work started Thursday morning but it was clear that the fix was not quite made in time for the morning commute.
Sound Transit supplied more bus service to help fill the gaps.
