SEATTLE — Bands of light to moderate snow fell in Seattle through Tacoma on late Friday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Northwest Interior, the east Puget Sound lowlands and the Cascades.
Snowfall for places from Everett through Tacoma, including Seattle, Bremerton, the Eastside will likely be very limited to nonexistent because of the shadowing effect of the Olympics.
Snow is just a little heavier in #Seattle now but largely ending this hour (at least temporarily.) #wawx

Simply because of geography and its location, the Bremerton-Bainbridge-Seattle west-east axis will be the least-favored area in all of Western Washington for accumulating snow.
After 6pm, #wasnow tapers to pockets mainly north and south of #Seattle and just rain or rain/snow mix continues in spots off and on overnight. #wawx pic.twitter.com/9nqrFyiJbv

Expect more in the Cascade foothills above 1,000 feet -- with a lot of that coming Friday evening -- and Whatcom County where snow is already accumulating as well as along the Strait and west of Olympia to near Hoquiam.
Lowland locations below 1,000 feet will have precipitation mainly turn to rain as warmer air moves in Friday evening.
There could be a break during the day Saturday -- though not completely dry with snow levels around 500 feet -- before another system moves in on Sunday. Sunday's system likely has higher snow levels above 1,000 feet, so it will be all rain in the lowlands.
Snow levels drop again by Monday and Tuesday with precipitation likely at times. We'll probably stay in this cooler pattern until mid-late next week before average temperatures moderate and snow levels rise comfortably above the lowlands even at night.
