SAMMAMISH, Wash. — A candlemaker in the Sammamish area is sparking joy this holiday season with her custom creations.
Homami Inoue is the owner of Candle Momo; a business that she’s poured her heart and soul into for five years.
It started as a pastime in the pandemic and quickly grew into something bigger.
“I decided to find a hobby and so that’s how I started to make candles at home,” Inoue told KIRO 7. “That became my biggest passion after moving to the United States. So, I decided to follow my passion.”
Transitioning from a career in nursing, she immersed herself in the world of flowers and candles.
The name of her business is inspired by her pet Corgi.
“Momo means peach in Japanese,” Inoue told KIRO 7. “Corgis have a cute peach-shaped bottom.”
Inoue creates intricate candle designs such as desserts, little animals, and other carved designs using all locally sourced flowers, soy waxes, and essential oils.
“I use essential oils because I get headaches with fragrance oils,” Inoue said. “The scent is really subtle so more people will be able to enjoy them without it overwhelming their senses.”
Patience is a big part of her process. Inoue said assembly typically takes about two days, but candles need time to cure which can take upwards of two weeks.
Inoue loves to share her passion with others. She doesn’t just sell her candles, she also offers workshops where she teaches community members how to craft their own candles.
