Arrest made in Seattle motel arson that killed two

SEATTLE — Editor’s note: The video above was posted before police announced that an arrest had been made.

Officers with the Seattle Police Department say a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an arson at a motel earlier in July that killed two people and injured four others.

The fire at the Hillside Motel, located in the 2400 block of Aurora Avenue, happened early in the morning on July 13.

Police said one of the victims, a 32-year-old woman, died from her injuries on July 17. Another victim, a 24-year-old man, died from his injuries on July 21.

The other four victims are still receiving treatment for their injuries.

The department’s arson/bomb squad initially handled the investigation, but it was turned over to the homicide unit following the deaths. The King County Medical Examiner ruled both deaths homicides.

Detectives said they identified the 24-year-old man as the suspect and arrested him around 10 p.m. Tuesday in North Seattle.

Police said the man was interviewed by detectives before he was booked into the King County Jail on investigation of murder, assault and arson.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
