AUBURN, Wash. — The Auburn Police Department has arrested a man they say was involved in a deadly drive-by shooting that happened in September.
Officers say they tracked down 29-year-old Francisco Gallegos Barbosa using surveillance, forensic analysis, and digital evidence- including incriminating messages discussing the shooting and his awareness of the police pursuit.
He was arrested on Feb. 5 after an extensive investigation.
On Sept. 3, officers were called to the intersection of 41st Street Southeast and A Street Southeast for a man who’d been shot.
Despite efforts to save him, the 35-year-old died.
After talking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance video, officers learned that someone fired shots at the man out of a stolen Toyota Highlander.
It turns out the victim wasn’t the intended target.
On Sept. 26, Auburn Detectives and Valley SWAT units conducted an operation that led to the arrest of multiple people connected to the case. With that arrest, Gallegos Barbosa was ultimately identified as the driver and shooter involved in the incident.
Then, on Feb. 5, with the help of Valley SWAT, Gallegos Barbosa was taken into custody.
The police department says he has a criminal history, including felony convictions for unlawful firearm possession, felony harassment, and attempting to elude law enforcement.
He was booked into King County Jail, with bail set at $2 million.
