Deputies are searching an area of the Olympic National Park on Monday for an armed man.

According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, the man is believed to be in the Deer Park area, which was his last known location. His car has not left the area.

Officials said the man is described as white, in his 30s and lives locally. He has access to food, water and camping gear.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI are assisting the National Park Service.

There has been no recent communication with the man.

Deputies said there is information to suggest he has been using drugs and possibly suffering mental distress.

According to investigators, there have been no threats made and no known threats to Deer Park area residents.

No injuries have been reported.

Officials said NPS evacuated Deer Park Campground Sunday and worked to help visitors leave the closed area.

Deer Park and Hurricane Ridge remain closed, including the nearby wilderness camping areas and hiking trails.
