Bedroom fire severely burns man in Marysville

MARYSVILLE, Wash. — A man in his 40s is in the hospital with severe burns a home in Marysville caught on fire Wednesday night.

It happened on 148th Street Northeast just after 11:00 p.m.

Marysville Fire District says the homeowner called 911 after their smoke alarms went off. They told dispatch that the fire started in one of the bedrooms where the man was sleeping.

The homeowner put out the fire and moved the man inside to a safe location until aid arrived.

About 40 percent of the man’s body is burned according to fire crews.

The man was rushed to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett for treatment. His current condition isn’t known.

At this time, no cause has been determined. Further investigation is pending.

“This incident underscores the life-saving importance of working smoke alarms,” Marysville Fire District said in a news release. “The smoke alarms in this home likely prevented a more tragic outcome by alerting the household to the fire.”

Marysville Fire District urges everyone to ensure they have functioning smoke alarms in their homes and to practice fire-safe habits, including avoiding smoking or using open flames near bedding and furniture.
