SEATTLE — UPDATE: Scott Christiani told KIRO 7 on Sunday morning that his wife passed away.

"She went fast and didn't suffer," Scott wrote in a text.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Hours before the University of Washington football team boarded a flight for Santa Clara, California, and the Pac-12 Championship game, one of the team's biggest stars fulfilled the wish of a dying Husky fan.

On Wednesday evening, star running back Myles Gaskin visited Trina and Scott Christiani.

Trina is dying of brain cancer. Family and friends are gathering at the couple’s home north of Ballard.

Her husband Scott told KIRO 7 he “was thinking, what could I do to make this dark time lighter?”

The Christianis have “always cheered on Gaskin because he’s from Lynnwood, and we’re from the Edmonds/Lynnwood area,” Scott Christiani said from the couple’s home Thursday afternoon. “Trina always said, ‘If I could meet a Husky, I’d want to meet him. He’s our guy.’”

So early Monday, Scott posted on Facebook that his wife "never misses a game. Myles Gaskin is one of her favorites of all time."

Yesterday, he received a text message from No. 9; the number one Husky running back of all time.

“I got a message, ‘Can I come at 4:30?'  'Yes you can!” Scott recalled.

Trina --- a life-long Husky fan --- has had brain cancer for 12-years and is nearing the end of her battle.

Scott thought there was a chance Gaskin might visit after the Pac 12 championship game. He never imagined Gaskin and UW punter Race Porter – both O’Dea High School graduates -- would take time the night before flying to California.

Scott believes Gaskin knows full well what his visit meant to the entire Christiani family. “Yes I do, because I think he’s an outstanding young man,” he said.

“I think they both saw an opportunity to bless somebody in a time of need, and they both said, ‘I’m going to jump on that opportunity,’ because they’re game changers, on and off the field.”

According to her husband, Trina’s memory is gone but she knew who was by her bedside Wednesday night.

“They made her feel really special, and they made us feel special.  This was a time of healing,” he said through tears.  “Her last wish was to see Myles Gaskin, but I believe that as much as she wanted that for herself, she wanted it even more for everyone else.”

Gaskin and Porter’s visit “allowed us all to come together around her one last time.”
