BELLEVUE, Wash. — The Bellevue Fire Department announced Saturday morning that its disaster search canine, Libby, passed away.
Libby was discovered as a stray by firefighter Sean Oliver, and they underwent a rigorous 2.5 year training program and became FEMA certified in 2008. They worked together for eight years, and the department said the pair was instrumental in saving three lives during their career.
“Libby was a fixture around the department for many years as she participated in open houses, school presentations, CERT classes and structural collapse rescue drills. She enjoyed showcasing her talents for everyone from the City Manager to local school children who would come to Station 3 specifically requesting to see the fire dog," a Facebook post from the department read.
Rest in peace Libby!
