Bellevue police locate suspected burglar & rapist; suspect escapes

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A suspected burglar and rapist was located in a car by Bellevue police but managed to escape after fleeing in a car.

Around 2:07 a.m. on Jan. 19, Bellevue police located a car in the 14600 block of Northeast 7th Place that had eluded officers several nights earlier while they were in an apartment complex on an unrelated call.

When officers approached the parked vehicle, they found a man who was in the process of consuming suspected drugs.

The man has numerous warrants and is a suspect in a burglary in the first degree, a rape in the first degree and an assault in the first degree in Redmond.

When the man began to make furtive movements, the officers opened the car door to detain him.

The man turned the car on and quickly backed up, nearly striking an officer and a second vehicle.

The man then hit a rockery, pulled between two patrol cars, striking both, and fled.

Officers were unable to locate the man.
