Bellevue police looking for witnesses, video of I-405 crash involving stolen car

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Bellevue police detectives are looking for witnesses and video footage of a crash involving a stolen car that happened on southbound Interstate 405 on Tuesday.

At 11:30 a.m., a Bellevue police officer tried to pull over a driver on I-405 near Northeast 44th Street in the Factoria area for not having license plates.

Police said the driver refused to stop and sped off. Shortly after, the car crashed into a median and another car, Bellevue police said. When the officer arrived at the crash scene, the suspect briefly fought with the officer but was taken into custody, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A loaded handgun was found at the scene.

The driver, a 29-year-old Federal Way man, was booked into jail.

Detectives are referring charges to the King County Prosecutor’s Office that include failure to obey an officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest, attempted hit-and-run, third-degree assault, carrying firearms, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Anyone who witnessed or has video of the incident is asked to email Det. Denzel Kankam at dkankam@bellevuewa.gov.
