BELLEVUE, Wash. — The city of Bellevue is planning to add protected bikeways through the downtown core by spring 2018.

The bike lanes, or bikeways, are part of a pilot project that will allow bicyclists to safely navigate through downtown Bellevue.

The community can weigh in on the plan at an open house on Thursday night at city hall from 5-7 p.m.

In 2009, the city came up with a goal to have one north-south and one east-west bikeway .
The levy passed last year gives the city about $400,000 to implement and study the pilot program.

Now, the city is hoping to have at least one bikeway installed by spring. The pilot project will create a mostly protected bike lane that can be easily altered.

The city will make adjustments as the project develops. The pilot bikeways will be studied during the second half of 2018 and the city will decide what to make permanent and what bikeways to add.
