OLYMPIA, Wash. — House lawmakers on Sunday passed a measure to modify state greenhouse gas emission limits, combating climate change.
The bill will set a 2050 net-zero emissions goal and require state agencies to set long- and short-term goals to meet emissions reduction benchmarks.
It will also require an increase in reporting on greenhouse gas emissions from wildfires and other sectors.
“It is vital that our target for reduction of carbon pollution be scientifically accurate and reflect what we know. The consequences of falling short will be extremely harmful and can significantly impact future generations,” said Rep. Vandana Slatter, (D-Bellevue).
House Bill 2311 passed the House in a 55-41 vote and will now head to the Senate.
