Bite of Seattle, Taste of Tacoma canceled for 2020

Local foodies can get their fix this weekend at Bite of Seattle, the annual three-day festival at Seattle Center filled with unique snacks, music and other entertainment.

SEATTLE — Two big summer food events in Western Washington are canceled.

The organizers behind the Bite of Seattle and the Taste of Tacoma announced Wednesday that the two food festivals aren’t happening this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Organizers said they were working to redesign the festival layout, implement strict safety protocols and tried to work on securing a later date.

Due to the state’s restrictions on large gatherings and the safety guidelines under the state’s Safe Start plan, the festivals would not be possible.

This is the first time in 38 years the Bite of Seattle is canceled and the first time in 34 years the Taste of Tacoma has had to be canceled.

The festivals bring in hundreds of vendors and tens of thousands of guests each year.

“Despite this devastating news, while we will miss bringing the community together to enjoy three days of food and fun,” said Brett Gorrell, president of Festivals Inc. “Our top priority remains the health and safety of our guests, vendors, employees, bands, chefs and all involved”
