After a levy was passed by voters in November, the Bothell Police Department has more than a dozen positions to fill.
Departments across the state and country are struggling to attract qualified candidates and fighting over the ones who do apply.
Bothell is hitting the road and looking elsewhere in the United States for officers already trained and looking for a place with higher pay.
The department is looking in Hawaii and also other areas in the Southwest where they may be able to get officers with different skill sets, such as those who are bilingual.
