LYNNWOOD, Wash. — A teenage girl was shot in the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday. She was taken to an area hospital, where she later passed away.

She has been identified as 13-year-old Jayda Woods-Johnson. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Lynnwood police say there was an altercation between two groups of teens near the food court area. Police say one male teen pulled out a gun and fired at least one shot.

Woods-Johnson was not involved in the altercation and was not part of either group.

Police say the suspected shooter is a 16-year-old male from Edmonds.

The suspect was brought into the police station by his mother Wednesday night where he turned himself in. Police say he is being booked for murder.

The gun has not been recovered.

Police still want to question other teens who were involved in the altercation.
