The highway was closed westbound at West Valley Highway and eastbound at Military Road South.
The Washington State Patrol says four cars were involved in the crash that happened at 3:20 a.m. near the intersection of West Meeker and South Kent Des Moines Road/SR 516.
Troopers say the victim, a 25-year-old woman who was possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs, was driving driving eastbound in the westbound lanes when she hit a work truck, spun around and then hit a second vehicle. She died at the scene.
The driver of the work truck that was hit was booked for investigation of DUI but did not cause the crash.
A fourth vehicle that was involved was not struck in the crash, but drove over debris that was scattered across the eastbound lanes. The eastbound lanes are closed because debris from the crash needs to be cleaned up.
WSP said it used a drone to fly over the crash and map out the scene as part of the investigation.
