Brush fire along I-5 in North Seattle forces evacuation of nearby homes

SEATTLE — A brush fire that broke out along Interstate 5 in North Seattle caused nearby homes to be evacuated on Wednesday.

The fires started just before 4 p.m. across the freeway from Jackson Park Golf Course.

In the span of a minute, video showed how quickly the fire spread.

Fire crews said the flames got a little too close to homes at one point.

“We did have to evacuate a few nearby homes because they were in close proximity of this fire. Once the residents were safely evacuated, we poured water and fire retardant on the homes to make sure they weren’t at risk of exposure,” Seattle Fire Department Public Information Officer David Cuerpo.

Crews said they found remnants of a homeless camp near where the fire started.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
