LA CONNER, Wash. — A car was dangling over a bridge on Highway 20 near Anacortes after it was involved in a fatal head-on crash Wednesday.
Troopers said the crash happened on the eastbound lanes of the Swinomish Channel Bridge at around 12:30 p.m.
The bridge is about 7 miles southeast of Anacortes.
According to the State Patrol, a car was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it struck another car head-on, killing both drivers.
A 76-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman died at the scene, troopers said.
All eastbound lanes of Highway 20 by the bridge were closed.
Pictures from Chopper 7 showed a long backup of cars as officials continued to work to clear the scene.
