A cat that fell 11 stories off a deck in Seattle survived the fall, even after breaking 3 legs, according to Jessica Tonani, the cat’s owner.
Tonani says Mr. Banks fell Wednesday around 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tonani had just gotten off a conference call and was about to leave the house when she quickly searched for him and couldn’t find the cat.
By 10 a.m. she still couldn’t find him and she texted her neighbor to let them know Mr. Banks was missing.
Tonani says she went outside to look for him and when she called him, she heard him crying.
After getting down to the 5th floor, she found him on an awning above the entrance of the building. The cat was very hurt.
The building manager got a ladder, and Tonani returned to her apartment to get her keys, wallet, and carrier.
Mr. Banks was put inside the carrier. The building manager told Tonani that “he is really hurt.”
Tonani quickly went to a vet who told her they were surprised Mr. Banks was still alive.
Mr. Banks was taken to a hospital vet, who had never seen a cat fall from that height and survive.
The vet said Mr. Banks could live a great life in about 4 weeks, but he will lose one leg and will need surgery on the other two legs.
Tonani says the cost of the surgeries will be between $20,000 and $26,000, which, Tonani said, is so much money she considered putting Mr. Banks down.
But after she heard her other cat, George, crying, she thought it was a miracle Mr. Banks survived, then maybe asking for help could be another miracle.
Tonani has set up a GoFundMe to help with Mr. Banks surgeries and treatments. As of 4 p.m. Thursday, it has raised over $15,000.
On Thursday, Tonani provided an update that he was getting his surgery today. She visited him at the hospital and “he was purring away.”
