King County zeroes in on ShoWare Center to host first high volume vaccination site

Many people are having issues signing up for the 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

KENT, Wash. — The city of Kent and King County are in discussions to host a mass COVID-19 vaccination site in the city.

The site would be at the accesso ShoWare Center on West James Street.

Officials said Wednesday final details are being negotiated and that a contract hasn’t been signed.

The goal of the site is to provide 500 vaccines daily, six days per week by appointment only. And officials would scale up if they got more vaccines.

“The city of Kent would provide backend logistical support through operation of the facility, technical support and traffic support through the Kent Police Department,” officials said.

The day-to-day operations would be run by King County Department of Community and Human Services along with Public Health - Seattle & King County.

Both the city and county expect to release more information in the coming days.
