SEATTLE — Seattle Parks and Recreation is asking for community feedback for two new off-leash areas for dogs to enjoy.
Seattle currently has 14 off-leash areas (OLA), with three more planned in the south.
According to results of an OLA expansion study conducted last year, the two new parks will be built at West Seattle Stadium and Othello Playground.
The West Seattle Stadium will be transformed from the current unpaved overflow parking lot into the off-leash area, and the Othello Playground OLA will be located in the southwest corner of the park.
Both sites will include a fully-fenced in park and seating for dog owners.
“The Metropolitan Park District provided funding for the construction of 2 new OLAs and the design of a 3rd. As mandated by the MPD, one of these OLAs will be constructed in West Seattle and the other OLA can be constructed in any other neighborhood of the city. The third site (funded for design only) may be anywhere in the city, though construction funds will need to be secured first. The sites that are not immediately prioritized may function as a blueprint for the department in future years as more funding becomes available,” the city wrote on its website.
Parks and Rec consultants will be available to answer community questions, present concept design options and collect feedback, which will be used to help shape the final design of these off-leash parks.
The community engagement meetings will be held:
- On Feb. 20 the Othello Playground OLA Open House at Othello UW Commons, 4200 S. Othello St., Suite 117 in Studio A/B from 4 to 7 p.m.
- On Feb 23 the West Seattle Stadium OLA Open House at the West Seattle Farmer’s Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come find our booth at the Farmer’s Market.
There are three other OLA’s already planned for Georgetown Flume, South Park Community Center, and Smith Cove.
