Classes canceled in some school districts due to power outages

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Students in the Federal Way, Orting and Sumner-Bonney Lake school districts will not be logging on for class Tuesday because of widespread power outages.

Pacific Christian Academy is also closed due to a power outage. There will be no preschool.

As of 6 a.m., there were 79,000 Puget Sound Energy customers without power across Western Washington.

Because students have no internet, they cannot attend classes through distance learning.

The Federal Way School District said all district and school buildings are closed.

“Due to the fires, air quality, and power outages, school will be canceled today. This includes all on-site services, meal services, and remote learning for OSD students. We plan to resume school tomorrow,” Orting Schools Superintendent Dr. Tony Apostle said in a notice to families.

There is no ETA for power to be restored.
