Climate activist group refuses to leave state capitol

The climate activist group Protectors of the Salish Sea, along with others, hosted an emergency gathering on the steps of the Washington State Capitol Tuesday.
Tuesday night, Washington State Patrol officers arrived and asked the group to leave. Shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, the troopers left and protesters remained on the capitol grounds.
A spokesperson for the group told KIRO 7 they will remain at the capitol until their demands are heard.
They are asking lawmakers to declare a ‘climate emergency’ and terminate all current fossil fuel projects and proposals.
Among those specifically listed by the group are the Tacoma LNG site, along with the Puget Sound and North Seattle Lateral pipelines.
They group is also asking for the breach of the four dams on the lower Snake River, in order to restore wild salmon populations.
KIRO 7 has not been told if any representatives have met with the group.
Protectors of the Salish Sea held a similar rally in January 2018.
