Coast Guard airlifts sick man from cruise ship

SITKA, Alaska — The Coast Guard airlifted a sick man from a cruise ship at Dixon Entrance early Tuesday.

The Dixon Entrance is an area north of Prince Rupert, B.C., and south of Ketchikan, Alaska, that is the dividing line between British Columbia and southeast Alaska.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Sitka and hoisted a 67-year-old man from the Malta-flagged, 1,040-foot cruise ship Celebrity Eclipse at about 1:30 a.m.

The man was flown to Air Station Sitka and where local medics were waiting to take him to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center in Sitka.
