Columbia Sportswear latest downtown business to permanently close

Columbia Sportswear is the the latest to join the growing list of businesses that won’t reopen in downtown Seattle amid the ongoing pandemic.

The Portland-based store at 3rd and Pine is now boarded up, and a voicemail on the store’s answering machine reports it permanently closed.

The company closed all of its stores temporarily back in March because of the pandemic.

>> More than 100 Seattle businesses closed for good because of COVID-19, other issues

The Downtown Seattle Association reports that since March, more than 100 street-level businesses in Seattle have called it quits.

While some of the closures were pandemic related, DSA officials say COVID-19 and plummeting foot traffic have only exacerbated existing problems, including shoplifting and the cost of paying for security.
