SEATTLE — Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (D-WA) joined Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice Washington and MomsRising in support of the Women's Health Protection Act at a press conference Tuesday.
The press conference was held at Planned Parenthood clinic in Seattle.
The Women’s Health Protection Act is a federal bill that was introduced in the House of Representatives last week in response to a series of states recently passing anti-abortion legislation.

The act would prevent states from imposing restrictions on abortion that are medically unnecessary and interfere with a woman’s ability to access care.
According to DelBene’s office, the bill would ban prohibitions on abortion prior to fetal viability and would also ban restrictions on abortion that single out abortion services or makes abortion services more difficult to access without advancing women’s health or improving safety.

Washington state already has laws in place that protect reproductive health rights; voters passed an initiative in 1991 that would keep protections in place for women in the event that Roe v. Wade is overturned.
“The House must pass this bill without delay and then Mitch McConnell and (the) Republican Senate must decide if they’re willing to do what’s right and protect women from these terribly invasive state laws,” DelBene said Tuesday.
